Why I Quit Smoking and started Running?

Last week I completed 10.2 km run in just over an hour. While this may not seem like a big achievement for many, to me its as good as winning a mini olympics. 6 months ago when I started running I could barely run 1 km without gasping for breath. Now I almost feel like I can go on for ever without stopping. You may be wondering what this has got to do with the topic of this post. It has a lot. I used to be a incorrigible smoker for many years and like every smoker knows, the craving for that 1st smoke of the morning and the “kick” it gave was something I really cherished for many years. I did technically give up smoking almost 10 years ago but used to still occasionally have a puff. The last 6 months I have not had a single puff and I can tell you it feels great!!.The kick you get out of running cannot be compared to the kick from smoking. It’s like being on marijuana for the whole day!.

While this may seem like an odd comparison, here are 6 reasons why you should choose running over smoking

1. Running is Free. Cigarettes can cost $ 5000 upwards in a year

2. You only need to run once to feel great the whole day. You need to smoke regularly during the day to get 1% of the kick

3. Your stamina goes up and you just feel great with running. Its obvious that smoking kills your stamina.

4. Women don’t like to kiss a smoker. They certainly love to kiss a athlete with a good physique.

5. You can run almost anywhere. You need to find a smoking area these days to smoke.

6. Running pumps life into you. Smoking KILLS!

I’ve met my first goal in running of running the 10 KM. I’m confident that I will soon achieve my next goal to run the half marathon. Cheers to Life!
